There are lots of surprises that come with motherhood, like finding mom friendly outfits that make you feel functional and stylish (insert winter capes and ponchos, my GO TO for hiding the extra winter LBS and still looking cute! Ha!)
But one thing that never fails to shock: my own behavior! Were you one of those moms who swore you'd never turn into your mother? Chances are, you'll start to notice similarities soon (at least I did!) As my toddler keeps growing and communicating, I in turn start to notice things that I never thought I would say and do! Before I was a mom, there were things I thought I would NEVER pass my lips. I think when it comes to parenting, we all plan on how to raise our kids — but it seldom works out this way. Here I am, 2 years later, saying stuff I never thought I would, like these five things:
I never thought I would bribe my child, but I find myself saying things like, “If you don’t put your shoes on then you can’t play with your toys.” or “I'll get you an ice cream cone if you stop screaming.” Sigh.
Since our little guy is still really young, time outs are something we are slowly introducing, and only if its an absolute must. So I have my own version on how to approach this. I say, “You know what, I think Camden and Mommy need to have some alone time to reflect and to think about a few things. You need to sit on the time out chair and just take a moment to breathe” LOL who am I?
Of course there's this classic, “If you don’t brush your teeth, they will all turn yellow and fall out.” Ummm . . . did I really just say that?
On a recent trip to Nashville, as my family visited a family friend's farm I said, “You don’t put anything from a barn in your mouth!” Hey, I stand by that one—it's pretty good advice!
