In honor of Mother's Month, I'm excited to interview some of my favorites moms to inspire me everyday! Second up this month is Sheridan Gregory, a mom (about to be mom of 2!!), blogger and curator of Blue Eyed Finch, and of my best friends here in LA when she isn't living her bi-coastal life in NYC! Sheridan is not only stunning (duh) but her fresh eye on fashion is one to not miss! She knows how to dress for any occasion all why toting her cute son Kannon around town. She also gives great beauty tips on her YouTube channel, so check that out too! To know more about this modern mom, read below!
As a mom, what has been your biggest challenge?
Not letting other people's opinions or "parenting advice" get to me. Everyone has different opinions on everything (whether they're parents or not!) & I am constantly reminding myself to not let their opinions get to me. Mom guilt is real guys ;)
What has surprised you the most about being a mom?
Honestly, I had no idea I could love someone so much! The love you have as a mom for your kids is entirely different than anything I've ever felt or experienced.
Not only are you a hands-on mother to a son, but you are also a successful business woman. Can you tell us a little bit about your blog and how this came about?
I started a personal blog back in 2011 to document our lives & travels but I barely posted. It wasn't until after I had Kannon that I transitioned my personal blog into Blue Eyed Finch & turned a hobby into a business. It seems like a never ending transition but I love every step of the process!
Where do you find your inspiration?
Living in Los Angeles (& now NYC), there is literally inspiration everywhere. From the people I pass on the street to beautiful locations, I am constantly finding inspiration through my surroundings.
What is your trick in raising a grounded, down to earth child?
Instead of rewarding Kannon with toys for good behavior & such, we try to spend as much time with him as possible outdoors & on little adventures. Honestly, we just try to let him be a kid & encourage his creativity, we'll see how it works out!
What does a typical day look like for you?
On top of the typical mom duties (i.e. Making food, playing at the park, bath time, nap time, bed time etc.) I make time to answer emails, shoot content, write blog posts & brainstorm for future content. Most days I look like a hot mess but as long as we make it through the day, I consider it a success :)
Describe your style?
My style is forever evolving & changing depending on many different things. Most days my style is very classic though, mixing & matching different basics is usually my go-to!
Two must have mom products you can’t live without?
Mustela products - I use these as much as Kannon does. They're perfect for sensitive skin! Wipes- Boogie Wipes (the best for runny noses! No more red noses & your kids won't complain so much about wiping their noses!) & Anti-Bacterial Wipes (to wipe down anything & everything!)
What are some “kid friendly” items you can’t live without?
My current favorite kid products are Wikki Stix (they'll keep your kids entertained for so long!) & Duplo Legos (the amount of things that can be built with these is endless). I love the creativity both of these products encourage!
Where do you find your balance?
My husband. We're lucky enough to be able to balance being parents & working because neither of us has the typical 9-5 job. I couldn't do what I do without his help!
What is one thing you would have done differently as a mom?
Not stress so much. None of us are perfect mothers & there isn't one correct way to raise kids. With the millions of articles about how to raise your kids, you can get caught up in what you're doing wrong. I've finally learned to stop taking what people say personally & to follow my instincts. After all, no one knows my little one like I do!
Favorite quote that rings true to you as a mom?
"I never knew how much love my heart could hold until someone called me mommy" - Like I said above, there is no love like the love you have for your kids!
What words of advice would you have for new moms?
Follow your instincts & do what's best for you & your family! Being a mom is the greatest blessing in the world but it definitely takes a lot of patience & you'll make plenty of mistakes along the way. Learn to forgive yourself & know that you're not the only one going through it :)
