Must Have Monday (0-7 Months Edition)

Do you ever feel overwhelmed with all the “must haves” out there for babies? As a mom, I know I've spent countless hours researching the best products and options for my son, only to be left with exhaustion and confusion. And mind you, a lot of this started before he was born!

I can’t count how many times I’ve felt frustrated and even guilty for not knowing everything about the latest and greatest “thing” for my child while furiously buying in bulk with the click of my mouse.

After months of the blame, shame and anxiety game, I finally gave up the idea of perfection, let go of the guilt, and was able to really explore some great products available. I started doing my own research, called on other amazing mommy friends for their opinions, and asked my pediatrician for ideas and feedback.

So, what better way to jump-start this blog then with my very first Must Have Monday. After much trial, error and flagging down random moms at the grocery store, I have found products that I consider must haves for my son. He is currently 7 months old, so I have listed a variety of products that have helped from his birth until now.

What are your must haves? Let me know of any that I need to try!

Luna Lullaby Bosom Baby Nursing Pillow: Ya’ll, I cannot express to you how amazing this nursing pillow is. I hadn’t known of it when I registered, so when Camden was first born I was trying a different nursing pillow from my registry and it was just not working for us. After a quick Google search and help from the lovely ladies at The Pump Station, I came across the Luna Lullaby. Not only does it feel like a puffy cloud that just fell down from the sky, but it’s V-shaped, which makes the latch on process much easier. It can also be used as a maternity sleeping pillow. This is seriously a lifesaver!

Colic-Calm Homeopathic Gripe Water: Camden had a very sensitive stomach for the first 4 months of his life. Even though he was never full blown “colic”, my pediatrician recommended Colic Calm for relieving infant gas, hiccups and upset stomach. What I like about Colic Calm is that it seemed to work better than any of the other gripe waters and stomach/gas aids I tried, is 100% homeopathic, and is free of sugar and artificial flavors or colors.

Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream: What can I say about this cream other than the name doesn’t lie…this stuff is pure magic!  My pediatrician recommended this to me for diaper rash. What is amazing about this cream is that it is also recommended for other infant skin issues such as rashes, scratches, bumps, bruises, and flakes. It’s great for adults to use on all the above plus scars, acne, extremely dry skin etc.!! This stuff is truly the best for babies and adults. And of course, its 100% all natural. This cream is literally made up of 6 ingredients (olive oil, bees wax, honey, bee pollen, royal jelly, bee propolis) A little bit goes a long way with this stuff, the 4oz tube lasts FOREVER!

aden + anais Bamboo Swaddles: I love these aden + anais bamboo blankets. I prefer the bamboo material because it is extremely soft and breathable (no worries if your child lays them over his face repeatedly like mine does!) They have colorful designs like the 'Mela' and 'Diwali' which babies visually love. They come in packs of 3 and are great for swaddling or everyday use.

Beaba babycook Pro2x: We started eating solids a month ago and its been quite an enjoyable experience. I am a mom who really makes food preparation a priority. So, given my daily hectic schedule, I knew I needed to find a good food maker that was quick, easy to clean and a time saver. After much research and asking friends, I decided to go with the Beaba babycook Pro2x. What I like about this food maker is that it is truly designed with the busy parent in mind. It heats, defrosts and purees all in one! All you have to do is prep, throw in the food, plug it in and voilà! The two sided food prep bowls allow you to prepare large portions of the same or different foods in under 15 minutes.  I’ll usually spend about 45 mns on Sunday prepping his food for the week. I store the leftovers in the freezer using the Beaba multiportion freezer trays. If you don’t need a two sided food bowl they have one sided Beaba babycook Pro available.

Plum Organics: If you don’t have the time to make your own food but are still looking for good options, you should definitely try Plum Organics baby food. I buy these in bulk and use these pouches for when we travel. They are organic, come in different stages for the age of your child and made with just the whole fruit or vegetable. No preservatives, no GMOs! These pouches taste fresh and come in a variety of flavors.  Camden’s favorites are sweet potato, peaches, and peas with mint.

The Honest Company Wipes: Not only do I love the fact that these wipes are 100% all natural, plant based and biodegradable… but I love how durable they are. You can wipe anything from a baby bottom to bird poop off a stroller with these bad boys! It’s also nice to not worry about any chemicals if your baby (or should I say when your baby) shoves these in their mouth. They come in travel sizes for the diaper bag too.

Munchkin Arm and Hammer Diaper Bag Dispenser: I love how these attach to my diaper bag.  They are great for on the go or in an airplane as they are scented. I also use them to store dirty bibs, clothes and toys so I can keep them separate from the clean stuff and wash when I get home.

Nosefrida The Snotsucker Nasal Aspirator: If you are anything like me, you will be pretty grossed out by the word “snotsucker". In the beginning, the thought of sucking the snot out of my baby's nose was just too bizarre to warm up to. BUT… man, does this thing work! Developed by a doctor, this anti-snot contraption is easy to clean, dishwasher safe, BPA and Phthalate free. It has disposable filters to prevent any bacterial transfer. Safe to use on little babies up to kiddies.

Light-Up NogginStik: My child is literally obsessed with this thing! Out of all the mounds of toys we have in our house, nothing comes close to the little noggin. And I have to admit, its pretty rad. Not only does it light up multiple colors when you shake, rattle and roll it, but it also has a mirror at the bottom. Both of these are great for stimulating a baby's eyes and to encourage visual tracking. The textures are good for feeling and teething.  It has an easy to hold handle for grasping. Can’t leave home without this one.

Jesus Calling Bible Storybook: Confession! I have a major soft spot in my heart for Jesus Calling and its various books. A few years ago, I had the privilege of working publicity on the book. When author Sarah Young released a children’s bible storybook, I knew it was a must have for our collection. Jesus Calling has literally sold upwards of 9 million copies, so I knew this was going to be one that resonated from the page well. If you are a person of faith, this book is a wonderful tool to help young children understand God, his love for children, his son Jesus, and his home in Heaven. It has beautiful illustrations and is hardcover, so doesn’t bend or tear easy.
